Why so protective of this old farmhouse?
Here we go again. The Hoffman Estates village board is in opposition to New Haven Development Co. demolishing the old Freye farmhouse, which has no architectural significance and is not being maintained, to build new construction.
If the building were renovated and used for historical education, I would have no objection, but that is not the case.
Yet when there were finally funds to renovate the Lindbergh schoolhouse, a very unusual example of architecture and one of only two in the state, and the building would have an actual use, what does Hoffman do - tear it down, of course.
That amazes me, since at the same time Mount Prospect was fighting to save a schoolhouse in their town and they succeeded. Priorities about education I guess.
I've lived here since 1969 and have seen a lot of board people come and go, but some of the current board members give me cause for concern.
