Time to expose other corruption
Where is the outrage by the people of Illinois and our elected officials? The silence is deafening.
"Pay to Play" is a cute news headline, which completely misses the point. Politics has been defined as "social relations involving authority or power." The bedrock of our system is "of the people, by the people, for the people." But, here is the rub.
People elected to represent other people will do things that are necessary to get the job done. Compromise or get along is the gold standard of how politics works. However, seeking personal enrichment or gains cannot become the end game of our system. Sadly it has.
Now is the time for all Illinois politicians and all voters in the state to express their anger against this type of behavior. I urge the mayor, the State Senate Leader, former governors, politicians in all levels of government to speak out now and identify those who have misused the system. Be assured this information is well known. Talk to the U.S. Attorney.
Similarly, I urge voters, state contractors, donors and contributors to any candidate to express their outrage at how the system works and when or where they have been strong-armed by government officials. We know where the bodies are buried, and the failed conduct of our present governor has given us the opportunity to stand up to the situation through disclosure. We won't very often get this chance for change.
Take that opportunity today. Silence only confirms that we do not want change and are ready to accept more of the same in the future.
