Hoffman Estates fire causes $25,000 in damage
Hoffman Estates fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire over the weekend at a home on the 600 block of Mohave Street that caused $25,000 in damage.
Flames were shooting out of the house's chimney when firefighters pulled up at 11 p.m. Saturday. They called for assistance, and in all, 29 firefighters from four different departments arrived to help. The fire was extinguished by 11:20 p.m., reports said.
The residents were home at the time but evacuated safely. No injuries were reported. The home did not contain a sprinkler system. Investigators found two smoke detectors in the home but neither had activated, fire officials said.
As of Sunday, investigators knew the fire originated in the living room area but did not yet have specifics. The home's living room sustained fire and smoke damage, with additional smoke damage in the attic, reports said.
