Good citizens stay involved

Congratulations to the citizens of the United States. We have spoken, and it is change that we want. Let's take the next step to ensure the change we want comes to pass.

Our newly elected officials, being either re-elected incumbents or professional politicians, undoubtedly will view the results of the election with the same eyes, minds and pockets that have served them for the last 150 or so years. They will speak of "victories" over "opponents" and assume their particular political ideology is what the people have endorsed.

We need to let them know how wrong that assumption is. It is incumbent upon "we, the people," to continue to contact our representatives with this message: There is no longer a time or purpose for any political ideology to believe it is only way to govern. It is time to address the most pressing problems of this nation with a common purpose, common sense, an open mind, and a spirit of compromise to find solutions to the problems plaguing the people you have sworn to serve.

No elected official, Republican, independent, or Democrat, can be allowed to believe they can continue to be combatants for power. Unity cannot be called for by the voters only to have the mental and emotional war for power and control continue.

Good government is the product of good citizenship.

Write your senator. Call your congressman.

If we don't, it will degenerate to the "business as usual" that we have suffered with for too long. There are too many families losing their livelihoods and their life, and too many families grieving their lost ones in unsubstantiated wars to do nothing. Let us now truly become a United States by making the effort to ensure we have a united, and therefore effective, federal government.
