Police release sketch of robber who beat store manager

After four months of investigation, the Aurora Police Department has released a sketch of a man who robbed and beat a grocery story manager.

Detectives have been interviewing dozens of people who may have information about the crime but have no solid leads, according to spokesman Dan Ferrelli. They are hoping the artist's sketch will generate some new leads.

A 26-year-old man was driving to a bank near North Lake Street on Aug. 4 to make a $150,000 deposit. The money was proceeds from the grocery store he managed. A man wearing a white towel over his face opened the unlocked passenger door of the car as the car was pulling up to the bank.

The robber got into the car, pointed the gun at the driver and forced him to drive through a number of neighborhoods. He eventually made him to stop, at which point he beat the driver with his gun, grabbed the money and ran.

Police say the suspect appeared to be Hispanic and was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds. He was also missing part of his left eyebrow. He appeared to be in his early 20s, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police at (630) 801-6655 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
