Stay focused on corruption charges

What part of corruption don't you understand?

I was appalled to read the intimations that suggest we should keep Mr. Blagojevich as governor because he would not raise taxes.

The paper further indicated that he is performing well because, as governor, he signed the autism insurance act into law. The governor commonly uses this tactic to deflect negative attention. Hasn't the paper ever noticed that Mr. Blagojevich always has a "give away" for some special interest group, or some other "Great News for the People of Illinois" every time questions of his honesty are raised. He's been doing this for years. Wise up.

On Saturday the news media played right into Mr. Blagojevich's hand with the front page feature showing his piety.

Several ministers went to the governor's home to "pray with him." I doubt Mr. Blagojevich's own priest or minister was part of the group. In his role as whited sepulcher the governor is depicted as one well-read in the area of historical figures that have been wrongly persecuted but have risen, phoenixlike, to even higher levels when false accusations have been exposed. The visiting ministers were very impressed. The governor's hubris impressed me too.

Does the Daily Herald seek to smear Mr. Blagojevich's guilt around? The suggestion that others are hoping for personal gain from Illinois' agony is offensive. This is the governor's ethical and moral mire. Keep Mr. Quinn and Ms. Madigan out of it.

Relativism is no defense. Patrick Fitzgerald particularized the charges against the governor. Focus on the main event, Rod Blagojevich and his dishonest exploitation of power for personal gain, which, incidentally, is the meaning of corruption.
