Ex-NU student charged in alcohol death

A former Northwestern University student is free on $25,000 bond after being charged with providing alcohol to a teenager who died.

Police say 22-year-old Alexander James Krzyston of Evanston bought alcohol for 19-year-old Northwestern freshman Matthew Sunshine of Cold Spring Harbor, NY, and others. Officials say the students drank the alcohol on June 9 in a campus dorm where both Krzyston and Sunshine lived.

Sunshine was later found unresponsive. An autopsy showed he died of excessive alcohol intoxication.

Authorities say Krzyston was ordered held Wednesday on one count of unlawful delivery of alcohol to a minor. His hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Northwestern officials say Krzyston hasn't enrolled in the school for the past two quarters.
