State high court refuses to hear motion declaring Blagojevich unfit

SPRINGFIELD -- Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she's disappointed the Illinois Supreme Court has refused to hear her challenge to Gov. Rod Blagojevich's fitness to serve.

The longtime Blagojevich foe says his refusal to resign amid federal corruption charges has put the state in an "unsustainable situation."

Madigan had argued Blagojevich's legal and political troubles are keeping him from performing his duties. She wanted the court to find him unfit so he could be stripped of his duties.

The court rejected Madigan's challenge Wednesday without comment.

Lawmakers are moving ahead in Springfield with impeachment proceedings.

After learning the court's decision, Madigan encouraged them to act with "deliberate speed."
