Central Illinois house fire kills 2
GALESBURG - A fire that swept through a central Illinois home has killed two people.
Galesburg Fire Chief John Cratty says the Tuesday morning fire killed a parent and a child. He did not identify them.
Cratty says fire was reported about 9:45 a.m. at the house, which was divided into two apartments. Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
The woman and child were found in the home's front apartment. Three people escaped from the rear apartment.
One of them, Kristen Edwardson, told The (Galesburg) Register-Mail that she and her daughter and boyfriend ran out of the house when they were popping sounds.
Cratty says the fire is under investigation.
