Hoffman Estates woman charged in fatal DUI

Chicago police said a 27-year-old Hoffman Estates woman was charged with felony DUI in the death of a 35-year-old Chicago man early Sunday morning.

Stephanie Buzek, 27, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence in a fatal accident. She is recovering with nonlife threatening injuries at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Chicago police officials said.

If convicted of the class four felony, Buzek could spend a maximum of three years behind bars, police officials said.

She also was charged with misdemeanor DUI and a handful of traffic citations for the accident that killed Sergio Correa, 35, early Sunday morning.

Police said Correa was stopped at a traffic light on Milwaukee Avenue near Devon Avenue when he was rear-ended by Buzek at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Correa was pronounced dead at Lutheran General at about 3 a.m., officials from the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Correa and Buzek were alone in their cars when the accident happened, police said, police said. Buzek is expected to be taken into custody after being released from the hospital, though police officials did not know when she would be released.
