Aurora man gets 20 years for pair of DUIs
An Aurora man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a pair of drunken driving convictions, authorities said Monday.
Richard L. Haley, 38, was charged with driving under the influence twice in 2006 after being reported to police by gas station attendants on separate occasions, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
In July, Haley pleaded guilty to driving drunk on March 17, 2006, when Aurora police found him with an open container of alcohol in a running vehicle outside a gas station.
In September, he again pleaded guilty to a DUI charge stemming from an Oct. 23, 2006, traffic stop outside a Sugar Grove filling station.
Judge Allen M. Anderson on Thursday sentenced Haley to consecutive eight- and 12-year prison terms.
Haley, who had five prior DUI arrests, was credited for 117 days served in the county jail, officials said. He must serve at least half of the sentence.
