2 WIU students face weapons cache charges

MACOMB -- McDonough County authorities say two Western Illinois University students face felony charges after being found wearing homemade bulletproof vests and with a weapons cache.

Sheriff Rick VanBrooker says the discovery was made when a deputy stopped a truck for speeding.

He says 25-year-old Bryce A. Standley of Macomb and 20-year-old Nicholas R. Holik Jr. of Mount Prospect had two rifles and two loaded pistols, all with silencers. They also allegedly had night-vision goggles, gas masks and ammunition.

Both are free on bond. An attorney for Holik told a judge the men were coyote hunting and target shooting.
