Safe streets should be a top priority
I have lived in Libertyville for the last 42 years and in winter the roads were promptly cleared of snow, salted and sanded. But this is no longer true. This year no salt is being put on the side roads making driving hazardous. On inquiry, the Mayor of Libertyville, Mr. Harger, says the cost of salt has more than tripled from $45 to $143 a ton. Why has the cost of salt risen so much? Who is responsible? The mayor also says that he is only given 7 percent of the budget for infrastructure. Since this is a question of safety, I believe more money should be allocated for snow removal, salting and sanding the roads. I would be most appreciative if The Daily Herald would investigate this problem. Thanks.
