If it's Illinois, it's probably corrupt
It was public knowledge that the original Mayor Daley was corrupt, I don't believe there was even that much effort to try and hide this fact. It was thought that Mayor Daley got things done by this method and it was for the most part accepted.
These days there seems to be a bit more effort put into concealing this aspect of politics but when you hear things like he wants to refurbish the fountain in Grant Park for when the Olympic selection committee is in town and the cost will be $25 million you can't help but wonder what is going on. You also wonder what the heck a new fountain would cost.
We are already paying the highest sales tax in the country and I've noticed that my property taxes have gone up every two years for some time, yet Todd Stroger is looking for bail out money for the county because they are broke. When I combine this with the fact that I can't come up with any services we receive from Cook County out here in the suburbs I pretty much have to assume there is corruption running rampant through there as well.
Recently the entire country has been introduced to our fine governor and gotten a good idea how politics is done in Chicago and the state of Illinois.
Are we to assume that the local politician brought up in this system who skyrocketed from obscurity to the pinnacle of elected office in record time is completely clean?
Maybe he is special, or maybe if the vast majority of so-called 'journalists' in the media are inclined to look the other way anything is possible.
Let's not forget who occupied the seat Blogo was trying to sell.
