Durbin plea doesn't reflect constituency

Webster's Universal Dictionary defines a Republic as "A form of government as one where the citizenry elect another citizen to represent them in government matters and business."

"Represent them" is the key phrase! I submit, Mr. Durbin, that you are not, by definition, representing us in the matter of clemency/pardon for George Ryan.

Using the official stationery of your office would indicate that you are asking for this clemency/pardon on behalf of the people of Illinois, not as a private citizen.

Reading all the negative and opposed opinions in the newspaper would indicate that to not be the case. Next time, before you do a thing like this, ask your constituency or take a survey for the feelings of the voters who you are supposed to represent.

Methinks that you, intentionally, waited until after your re-election to make this appeal. I hope the voters remember this when you come up for re-election in 6 years. Sadly, I don't think they will.
