Montini rains 3s on Rosary

Montini took the expression "making it rain" to a whole new level Friday night against Rosary.

For the game Montini was 10 of 14 from behind the 3-point line as the Broncos cruised to a 62-33 win. Alison Seberger, Whitney Adams and Mallory Sosnovich each had three 3-pointers. Whitney Holloway added the other 3-pointer.

"We shot darn well tonight both from the field and behind the arc," Montini coach Jason Nichols said. "We were very effective on 3-pointers tonight. I will take 10 of 14 any day of the week from here on out."

It wasn't just the 3-pointers that allowed the Broncos to run away with this game. In the first six minutes of the game, Montini caused 7 turnovers and jumped out to a 19-2 lead. For the game the Broncos (9-1, 3-0) forced 28 turnovers and converted those turnovers into 37 points.

"One thing we really like to do is use our defense to start our offense," Holloway said. "Defense is what wins ballgames, and tonight we definitely put a lot of pressure on the ball. One of the reasons that Montini was able to shoot the ball so well from behind the arc was Holloway. She had 18 points, 8 assists, 5 steals and 3 rebounds.

"What can I say about Holloway besides she is awesome?" Nichols asked. "She is just simply amazing with what she brings to the floor. For the game she had those 18 points and those assists, with many of them being 3-pointers, I think it would be safe to say she was involved with over 60 percent of our offense."

One of the things that Rosary worked on during the week was not allowing Holloway to penetrate into the lane and get easy looks for her teammates.

"Obviously, from watching the game you would have never guessed that was something we worked on in practice," Rosary coach Dave Beebe said. "I will not take anything away from them. They are a great team, and if they aren't ranked No. 1 in state, they probably should be. They are a tremendous team."

Seberger and Adams both chipped in with 11 points. Adams also had a team-high 8 rebounds.

Rosary (6-3, 1-2) was led in scoring by Katie Eckberg with 12 points. She also had a game-high 6 blocks.
