Man ordered imprisoned in 2006 slaying
EDWARDSVILLE -- One of two suspects in the 2006 killing of a St. Louis acquaintance whose body was found on a southwestern Illinois island is headed to prison for 20 years.
Forty-two-year-old Eustaquio (yoos-TOCK-ee-oh) Jimenez was sentenced Thursday in Madison County after pleading guilty to one first-degree murder count.
Prosecutors charged Jimenez and Jamie Sierra in October 2006 three days after 27-year-old Jamie Garcia's stabbed body was found by hunters on Chouteau Island.
Investigators have said the two suspects repeatedly stabbed Garcia after a dispute at his home, at some point hitting him on the head with a beer bottle and stealing his wallet.
Sierra's trial is pending.
