Elgin police make pot bust

Elgin police say they found 224 grams of marijuana, seven grams of cocaine and a digital scale when they searched a home at 1895 Monday Drive in Elgin Wednesday evening.

Emily C. Kamaris, 23, and Jared M. Tomlin, 23, both residents of the home, were charged in court Thursday with possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, according to a court report.

Kamaris, the owner of the home, told police she allowed Tomlin to live there. She said the marijuana belonged to Tomlin and he sold it because he was unemployed.

She said he sometimes gave her money from the marijuana sales to help her pay her mortgage, according to court reports.

Police said there were small children in the home when they entered at 10 p.m. Wednesday and they also found a woman in the basement who admitted she was there to purchase marijuana.

She said she was going to buy a gram of pot but hadn't done so yet, so she was released without charges, police said.

Police said the seven grams of cocaine was found stuffed in cushions on the basement couch.

The owner of the cocaine has not been established, police said.

Bonds of $300 each were set for Kamaris and Tomlin.

Both posted bond Thursday morning and were released from custody.

They are scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 22 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
