'Delgo' more Saturday morning than Pixar
'Delgo,' a computer-animated, kid-sanitized fantasy action film, takes after Saturday morning cartoons more than Pixar features. On the planet Jhamora, a war between the Nohrins (possessing wings) and Locknis (resembling frogs) doesn't stop the flying Princess Kyla (Jennifer Love Hewitt) from falling for enemy Delgo (Freddie Prinze, Jr.). Video-grade animation and comic flourishes make this film an action comedy instead of the comic action epic it strives to be. Cast includes the late Anne Bancroft and Chris Kattan as Delgo's shrill, overacting sidekick Filo. (PG)

'Dark Streets' has bright soundtrack
The real star of this dark and murky film noir thriller is the soundtrack with 12 original moody blues songs, accompanied by Bob Fosse-wannabe choreography and a plot aspiring to be a second disappointing sequel to "Chinatown." When suspicious power blackouts threaten to close a hot new L.A. nightclub, its playboy owner (an un-assertive Gabriel Mann) gets in bad with a cryptic cop (Elias Koteas) and two singers (Bijou Phillips, Izabella Miko). Not much substance; too much style. (R) for drug use, sexual situations, violence. 83 minutes.
Facts: Starts today at Pipers Alley Theater, Chicago.
