Illinois linebacker Wilson stable after incident

URBANA -- The University of Illinois says sophomore linebacker Martez Wilson is hospitalized after an incident near campus.

Illinois sports information director Kent Brown says the 19-year-old Wilson is in stable condition at Carle Foundation Hospital an Urbana after the Thursday night incident. Brown declined to provide details, other than to say Wilson is expected to recover.

Wilson's mother, Kyica Burton, said her son is "OK," but declined further comment.

Champaign Police Department investigators did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Brown says Illinois coach Ron Zook is traveling and has no immediate comment.

Wilson, a highly recruited player from Chicago, played in 11 of the team's 12 games last season but missed the last game for an unspecified violation of team rules.
