Geneva Library's 100-year-old roof slates now on sale
The yearlong celebration of the Geneva Library building's centennial is nearly over, but you can take home a piece of its history if you act quickly.
Slate tiles from the library's original 100-year-old roof, having been adorned by local artists, are for sale in a silent auction to benefit the Geneva Library Foundation. Bids are being taken through Friday, Dec. 12; the sale will wrap up at the "Celebrate the Seasons" party from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12 at the library, 127 James St.
The tiles are on display in the first-floor lobby of the library, and on its Web site, geneva.lib.il.us/node/266.

Fatima Figueiredo of Geneva, who lived most of her life in Rio de Janeiro, used images of travel, a paragraph from the classic children's novel "Anne of Green Gables" and key features of the library.
