Drive, drop and dunk at fundraiser

WGN Channel 9's morning newscast holds its sixth annual Drive-Thru Toy Drive from 5 to 9 a.m. Friday at the station's studios at 2501 W. Bradley Place, Chicago. Those interested are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys, and they'll receive in exchange a $2 gift card for Dunkin' Donuts. A Donut truck will deliver the toys to the Louis L. Valentine Boys & Girls Club, 3400 S. Emerald Ave., Chicago.

Gotta dance

WBEZ 91.5-FM's "Chicago Public Radio Presents" sponsors "An Afternoon at the Hubbard Street Dance Center," a behind-the-scenes look at the dance company's home at 1147 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. Doors actually open at 2 before things get moving. Admission is $15, $12 to CPR members and Hubbard Street and Victory Gardens Theater subscribers.

Fuse lit in Chicago

The Fuse cable channel attracts a little local attention by running a homecoming concert by the group Fall Out Boy recorded earlier this month at the Chicago Theater at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. The band performs music from its new album, "Folie a Deux."

'Wonderful' world

Looked at with a jaundiced eye, Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" is a syrupy sentimental Christmas fable. Yet there's no denying its emotional power as Capra lets Jimmy Stewart's George Bailey drop to the brink of suicide before salvaging him with the help of a guardian angel. It's at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, padded out to three hours with a bunch of other extras, on NBC's WMAQ Channel 5.
