Judson makes history during winter commencement

In making history, Judson University's 125 graduates will have the opportunity to reflect upon a little history.

Alistair Brown, director of the Northern Seminary, will deliver the school's winter commencement address in the Robert D. Lindner Fitness Center at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.

Brown, a Scottish-born author and renowned theologian, was named to the helm of the 95-year-old seminary last March.

The seminary moved from Chicago to Lombard in the early 1960s. In 1963, the seminary's undergraduate school, Judson, moved to Elgin, forming its own separate campus. This fall, Northern Seminary moved from Lombard to Elgin, adjacent to Judson's campus.

Brown was selected as the speaker to nurture the relationship between the two schools.

During the commencement ceremony, university officials will give master's degrees to 10 students who make up Judson's first class graduating from the Master of Organizational Leadership from the School of Leadership and Business. In all, 22 students will receive master's degrees and 103 students will receive bachelor's degrees in various subjects.

The commencement ceremony also marks the first group of graduates who will receive their degrees from schools since the university reorganized its academic offerings this fall into four divisions: the School of Art, Architecture and Design; the School of Education; the School of Leadership and Business, and the College of Liberal Arts.
