Fire causes $270,000 in damages to Naperville home
Naperville fire officials are trying to figure out what started the Sunday morning fire that caused more than $275,000 in damage to a home on the 1300 block of River Oak Drive in Naperville.
Naperville firefighters arrived at the scene within five minutes of a 911 call at 8:20 a.m. and found a chimney fire in the house. All occupants were already outdoors and no one was injured, reports said.
Because the fire was spreading rapidly through the attic and walls, the department deployed additional help. A total of 46 personnel were at the scene, reports said.
Rescue workers spent approximately 40 minutes extinguishing the blaze and two additional hours performing salvage operations and opening walls to expose any concealed, smoldering fire.
A building inspector from Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development Department declared the house uninhabitable until repairs are made. The residents will stay with friends until they can reoccupy their home, according to fire department reports.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation by Naperville's joint Police and Fire Investigation Team.
The Naperville Police Department and Naperville Emergency Management Agency personnel assisted the Naperville Fire Department.
