Durbin wrong to ask for Ryan's release
I just read the news that Sen. Dick Durbin has asked President Bush to grant ex-Gov. George Ryan freedom from prison. I believe it's a simple matter of who you have the most sympathy for: Ryan or the Willis family who lost six children due to the criminality of Ryan.
It's an obvious choice. In fact, I have more sympathy for Scott Fawell, Ryan's top aide, who at least served out his sentence. Why should Ryan (an elected official entrusted by the public) serve far less time than Fawell?
Illinois has had a history of corrupt governors for as long as I've lived here (60 plus years). This only gives license to others. Will it ever stop? I've been a strong supporter of Sen. Durbin over the years, but I won't vote for him again.
