Cops, FBI searching for woman who stole thousands from S. Elgin bank
The woman accused of robbing a South Elgin bank Friday made off with thousands of dollars, police said Sunday.
Police Chief Chris Merritt said the woman stole between $9,000 and $9,999 from State bank of Illinois, 1140 W. Spring St. During the holdup, which occurred at 4:55 p.m., the woman secured the cash after passing a note to a teller that implied she had a weapon, police said.
The note read: "If you call the police, I will kill you," police said.
The woman never displayed a weapon and left the bank on foot once she got the money, police said.
She is believed to have been driven away in another vehicle, police said.
Police released a sketch of the suspect Saturday.
They describe her as a slender, 5-foot, 3-inch tall black woman in her 30s, who during the robbery donned a dark purple coat with a fur-lined hood, dark pants and white or light colored sneakers.
No one is in custody.
South Elgin police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are jointly probing the incident.
