Small fire creates big show in Chicago's Loop

A small fire on the roof of a skyscraper under construction created a dramatic and smoky scene in Chicago's Loop Friday night.

Fire Chief Kevin MacGregor says a security guard was alone in the building on State Street and no one was hurt. He estimated that the fire was reported at 9:45 p.m. and was out 20 minutes later.

MacGregor said the fire likely started in the building's temporary heating unit, but the cause is still under investigation. Roofing paper and other material caught fire and created clouds of thick smoke.

Five ambulances and at least six fire trucks responded to the scene.
