Child porn leads to charges for Highland Park man

A Highland Park man was arrested Thursday after police discovered computerized child pornography, firearms and ammunition at his home, authorities said.

Kelly D. Sloan, 50, of 1484 Concorde Circle, is charged with 14 counts of possession of child pornography and seven counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The weapons charges were filed because Sloan does not have a firearm owner's identification card, police said.

Sloan was released from custody Friday after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond, authorities said. He is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 12.

Sloan was arrested following a multistate investigation, Highland Park Police Deputy Chief Dave Schwarz said.

The investigation stemmed from a tip to the national Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. On Thursday, police in Highland Park searched Sloan's home here, while Oklahoma State Police searched Sloan's second residence in that state.

No criminal evidence was uncovered in the Oklahoma search, Schwarz said.

The images discovered in Highland Park were stored on Sloan's computer hard drive, police said. Dozens of questionable images of children were found, Schwarz said, and 14 resulted in charges.

Those featured girls who appeared to be 10 to 14 years old performing sexual acts, Schwarz said. The photos came from a Web site, Schwarz said.

The weapons found in the house were:

•A .22-caliber rifle.

•A 12-gauge shotgun.

•A .38-caliber revolver.

•Two antique, black-power rifles.

Ammunition also was recovered, police said.
