Anderson, Rams prevail

For 3 quarters and 2 overtimes, Alex Anderson made only 4-of-16 shots and 1-of-6 from 3-point range.

Anderson made up for his shooting woes in the third overtime.

The Grayslake Central senior, a 4-year varsity performer, scored 7 points including a 3-pointer as the Rams outscored Jacobs 14-4 in the third extra session en route to A 68-58 Fox Valley Conference crossover win at Jacobs' Eagles Nest on Friday night.

Anderson ended the game with 16 points.

"We were a little tentative at the end of regulation and the first 2 overtimes," said Anderson. "I hit my first 3 in the third overtime and felt good. This was a great win against a great team."

With the score tied at 54-54 after 2 OTs, Anderson gave the Rams a 56-54 lead with an 18-footer from the left corner. Jacobs' Patton Hofer responded with a trey to give the Golden Eagles a 57-56 advantage with 2:23 left. But Anderson connected on a long 3 to give the Rams a 59-57 lead for good with 1:54 left.

The visiting Rams, who played without standout junior Andrew Sipes, sealed the win by making 5 of 6 from the line in the final minute. Anderson and Karl Jansson each made 2-of-2 from the charity stripe for the winners.

"We stopped playing toward the end of regulation and played not to lose," said Grayslake Central coach Brian Moe. "We were more aggressive in the third overtime and played with a lot of energy."

The Rams looked in good shape to win the game in regulation. Mike Brumm, who scored 20 points and made 4 3's, connected on a layup with 3:11 left to give Grayslake a 50-44 lead.

Jacobs came back on the broad shoulders of senior center Conrad Krutwig, who scored 6 straight points to even the score at 50 and send the game into overtime.

Krutwig, who scored his 1000th career point, led the Eagles (2-2) with 22 points.
