Aurora man charged after allegedly throwing girlfriend into Fox River

An Aurora man has been charged by prosecutors with attempted murder and aggravated battery after allegedly throwing his girlfriend off a bridge into the Fox River Saturday, officials said.

Jonathan L. Zinke, 34, of the 300 block of Oak Avenue, is being held in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bond, authorities said. He has also been charged with domestic battery and aggravated assault.

Zinke and his girlfriend were on the Galena Boulevard bridge about 3:30 a.m. Saturday after arguing at a party, officials said.

After the woman said she was going to leave him, Zinke allegedly grabbed the woman and threw her over the bridge railing and into the Fox River, prosecutors said.

The unidentified woman was taken to Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora but was not injured, authorities said. It's unclear at this point if the woman was rescued after plunging into the river or if she swam out.

Zinke was also charged with assault for struggling with police officers during his arrest, authorities said.
