Relaying a strange Indiana deer story
If it's not UFO sightings, it something related to wild animals. Strange things always seem to happen in Indiana.
The latest involves an incident in which five whitetail deer jumped off an overpass on U.S. Highway 224 and right into the traffic lanes of Interstate 69.
This strange occurrence took place in Huntington County, near the town of Markle.
At least one of the animals wound up smashing through the windshield of an oncoming car.
Shooting success: Ruby Fox of Parker, Ariz., one of the nation's leading pistol shooters and the foremost female pistol champion, will be inducted into the U.S. International Shooting Hall of Fame for 2008.
During her international career, which spanned from 1974-92, Fox earned 9 gold medals, 4 silver and 4 bronze in international events.
She is the only woman pistol competitor in the U.S. to win an Olympic medal, claiming the silver in sport pistol at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles; to win a World Championship (air pistol, Korea, 1979); and to claim a gold medal at the Pan American Games, which she earned in sport pistol in 1987 while setting a Pan Am record.
Fishing report
Northern Wisconsin: Lakes around the Chetek area are seeing the first legions of ice anglers doing their thing. I've received reports of excellent crappie and bluegill fishing on Chetek and Potato lakes.
Fox Chain: Don't push your luck just yet on the Chain even though the early birds are scouting safe locations. Word into my office tells of some ice angling on backwater areas of Nippersink and Fox lakes. Of course there is some of the same going on at Nielsen's Channels off the Fox River.
Lake Michigan: The die-hards are trying to squeeze out some of the bigger perch at Waukegan, while regulars at Montrose face heavy winds and hit-and-miss activity.
