Kane County Audubon Society plans events
The public is invited to programs and activities of the Kane County Audubon Society.
• Field trip to Nelson Lake. The first Saturday of each month Kane County Audubon invites the public to join them as they view the birds of Nelson Lake. Meet at 8 a.m. Saturday. Dec. 6, in the parking lot by the silo, which is west of Nelson Lake Road about 3/4 mile south of Main Street, and about 2 miles west of Randall Road in Batavia. • Birds of the Northwest and Beyond: Meet at Peck Farm at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. Peck Farm is at Peck Road and Kaneville Road, 38w199 Kaneville Road, Geneva, about one mile west of Randall Road in Geneva. The program will be Birds of the Northwest and Beyond by Kane County Audubon Society's Paul Mayer. For details, call Bob Andrini at (630) 584-8386.
• Bird Walk: At 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, take a bird walk at SEBA Park in South Elgin. The group will search for waterfowl and late migrants. Meet in the parking lot south of the South Elgin dam on the Fox River and east of Route 31. For details, call Jane McMillan at (847) 622-3216.
• Christmas Bird Count: At 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, K.C.A.S. members will lead groups counting all birds in Kane County's part of the Fermi Lab Loop. If you would like to be a part of this important data collection, call Terry Murray at (630) 896-3219.
• New Year's Day Bird Walk at Nelson Lake: At 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, meet in the parking lot by the silo, which is west of Nelson Lake Road, west of Nelson Lake Road, about 3/4 mile south of Main Street and 2 miles west of Randall Road in Batavia. Kane County Audubon is the local chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society and meets at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday each month, September through May. Meetings are held in the orientation room, the barn, at Peck Farm in Geneva. Field trips, bird walks and nature hikes are scheduled throughout the year and on meeting nights during June, July and August.
