Campaign's message still worth the fight
I would like to thank everyone who participated in the political process this past campaign season. The results didn't turn out like we had hoped - but our campaign was worth fighting for.
Our campaign wasn't just about me ... and it wasn't about Anita Alvarez.
Our campaign was about giving a voice to the powerless. It was about putting the political insiders on notice. It was about shining a spotlight on the waste, fraud and corruption that plagues our county and leads to higher taxes for each and every citizen, employer and working family.
I congratulate Anita Alvarez on her historic win. At the same time, I implore her to fulfill her campaign promise to bring real change to a State's Attorney's office that, for too long, has turned a blind eye to public corruption. Alvarez holds the power to change the reputation of our county - and restore integrity to our great county.
While I wish Alvarez the best, I will not slow down, waver or give up in my effort to be a watchdog for the taxpayers - and will continue to vigorously fight for the citizens of Cook County in my role as Cook County Commissioner.
Additionally, I urge the citizens of Cook County to remain active in the political process and bring positive change to Cook County. Together - we will reform Cook County.
Tony Peraica
