Three charged in '07 slaying of Aurora teen

Three men have been charged with first-degree murder following an investigation into the death last year of a 15-year-old Aurora boy.

Joshua Cavazos, 19, of Naperville, Justin Cavazos, 18, of Naperville, and Jamie Barragan, 18, of DeKalb, all have been charged in the murder of the Aurora teen following an investigation into the death from Jan. 20, 2007, Aurora police said.

Kane County state's attorney's officials approved the charges against the three late Sunday for their roles in the slaying of Oscar Rodriguez.

Both Justin and Joshua Cavazos were arrested over the weekend.

Justin Cavazos was arrested at a residence in the 3300 block of Lapp Lane in Naperville by Aurora police detectives with assistance from Naperville police. Joshua Cavazos was arrested by Special Operations Group investigators in the 400 block of East Indian Trail in Aurora.

Barragan was served with a murder warrant Sunday at the Kankakee County jail where he is serving time.

Bond for Joshua Cavazos was set at $5 million, officials said, while bonds for Justin Cavazos and Barragan were set at $2 million each. Both Joshua and Justin Cavazos were transferred Sunday to the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles, while Barragan remains in the Kankakee County jail.

The 15-year-old was shot about 2 p.m. Jan. 20, 2007, in an apparent drive-by as he was walking with an acquaintance on High Street approaching Grove Street, officials said.

The acquaintance was not injured by the gunfire.

Police allege that a vehicle occupied by the three suspects passed the victim's location, at which time gunshots were fired from inside the vehicle in the direction of the victim.

Rodriguez was transported from the scene to Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora where he eventually died as a result of the injuries.
