Man convicted for 2nd time in '99 double murder
A 28-year-old central Illinois man has been convicted for the second time in a 1999 double murder.
A Kankakee County jury convicted Javar Hollins of Kankakee of two counts of first degree murder, one count of armed robbery and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
Hollins was accused of killing Lazerick Martin and LaMichael Cox during an armed robbery.
The Illinois Appellate Court overturned Hollins' 2004 conviction on the same charges over evidence of jury tampering.
The second trial was prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General's office because of a conflict of interest involving the Kankakee County state's attorney.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she's pleased by the verdict.
Hollins is set to be sentenced Jan. 29.
