Schaumburg Flyers hire experienced manager
The Schaamburg Flyers on Monday named former Calgary Vipers manager Mike Busch to head up the 2009 squad as the franchise's fifth field manager. Busch comes to the Flyers with more prior success than any other field manager in the team's history.
"Flyers fans are hungry for someone to come into Schaumburg and bring the level of play and excitement they come to expect at Alexian Field," said Flyers GM Ben Burke. "We're excited to announce that we believe we've hired that person, Mike Busch, as the new Flyers manager."
Busch, a fourth-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1990, managed the former Northern League expansion Calgary Vipers for the past four years. In his tenure, he accumulated over 200 wins, managed two all-star teams, and led the Vipers to a 10-6 post-season record in two appearances in the last two years.
Prior to his time in Calgary, Busch managed three championship-winning teams, including the Great Falls Dodgers, the Albuquerque Dukes and the Buffalo Bisons.
"I'm a hands-on type of manager," Busch said. "I plan hard, work hard, and mostly I want to instill direction for these players. No one hates losing as much as I do, so I'm determined to bring a championship-caliber team to Schaumburg."
The Flyers are a member of the Northern League, an independent professional baseball league established in 1993. For ticket information call (847) 891-BALL (2255) or visit www.flyersbaseball.com.
