Dayton gets ugly victory over Auburn
It sure wasn't pretty, and it sure wasn't easy, but Dayton finally put away a stubborn Auburn squad 60-59 in overtime Friday in the Chicago Invitational Challenge at the Sears Centre.
The game featured some ugly first half numbers. The teams combined to go 0-for-26 from 3-point land and 11-for-30 from the free-throw line. Dayton finished the night an amazing 0-for-24 from the arc.
Marcus Johnson paced the Flyers with 16 points, while Kurt Huelsman had 10 points and 14 rebounds. DeWayne Reed led Auburn with 22 points.
David Holston was a one-man wrecking crew in Chicago State's 79-64 victory over Bethune-Cookman. Consider the 5-foot-8 point guard's line: 34 points, 10 assists and 7 steals. He was 12-for-18 from the field, including 7-for-13 from 3-point range to pace the Cougars (3-2).
In the tournament opener, Mercer (4-2), behind 20 points from Calvin Henry and 17 from Daniel Emerson, edged Texas Southern 71-68.
