Religious right exercises its right

In response to the letter "Religious right goes in wrong direction," the people of California simply exercised their voting right when deciding to keep the definition of marriage between a man and woman. I for one am grateful that I live in a country where the voice of the majority (Democracy) guides decisions made by the governing body (even if the vote doesn't go the way that I want).

In regards to the religious right forcing intelligent design in schools; why shouldn't our children be able to learn about both theories? The theory of evolution is just an opinion, not a scientific fact, as it cannot be observed in current time. It would be great if academia taught both widely-held opinions and let students make their own decisions.
