Cook County offices briefly evacuated

Suspicious packages led to the evacuation of the Cook County building at 118 N. Clark on Tuesday afternoon.

Chicago fire officials gave the all clear to go back into the building Tuesday just before 4 p.m.

According to officials, some suspicious packages with were found on the third and fifth floor of the building. Substances found inside the packages were tested and are considered non-toxic

The discovery led to a chaotic afternoon.

"Just people going through the office saying everybody has to get out, everybody has to evacuate the offices. So everyone just left the building and next thing we know there's 20 fire department trucks here," Cook County Board Commissioner Forrest Claypool said.

The situation is now over, according to officials.
