Chicago cab drivers threaten to strike

Chicago cab drivers say they'll strike for 24 hours starting Sunday because of concern over fares.

Many protested outside of Chicago's City Hall on Tuesday.

They are asking for a 16 percent fare increase citing difficult economic conditions. Earlier this month, a fuel surcharge was eliminated after the price of gas fell.

A spokesman for United Taxidrivers Community Council says they've told city officials that the fuel surcharge is not the issue.

He says drivers need a more reliable means of income and the 16 percent increase is for increased cost of living.

The drivers say a strike could paralyze the city.
