Shooting kills bouncer at Rockford bar

ROCKFORD -- Two employees of a Rockford bar were shot early Sunday, one of them fatally, as they tried to keep a man from re-entering the bar after being thrown out.

Police say 39-year-old Tyrone Thompson of Rockford was pronounced dead at 12:50 a.m. He was working as a bouncer at Chivo's bar. A second employee, 44-year-old Rodney Fair, is listed in fair condition at an area hospital.

Deputy Rockford Police Chief Greg Lindmark says a man who had been removed by the bar early Sunday returned about 10 minutes later and opened fire. He fled on foot and is not in custody.

An autopsy on Thompson is scheduled for Monday. He is Rockford's 19th homicide victim this year.
