Town meeting on sick time

The Illinois Paid Leave Coalition, Women Employed and Working Families Win will host a town hall meeting in Palatine tonight on the Healthy Workplace Act, a proposal that would allow all workers to accrue paid sick leave. According to the sponsors, 2.5 million Illinois workers do not get any paid sick time off. The discussion will include a presentation by Melissa Josephs, director of equal opportunity policy at Women Employed, a group that advocates for women's economic advancement. State legislators are also expected to be in attendance. The meeting takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Countryside Church, 1025 N. Smith Road. To RSVP, call (224) 678-6188. Inverness gets AAA rating

The village of Inverness has received a AAA rating for its $9.5 million bond sale next month. The borrowing will fund street improvements across the village over the next two years. AAA is the highest issuer credit rating assigned by Standard & Poor's, meaning the village's ability to pay back the loan on time is considered very strong. A limited number of municipalities in Illinois have received a rating this high, and Mayor Jack Tatooles said it "reflects the economic strength of the entire community."
