Hoffman Estates firefighters pull dog from lake
Hoffman Estates firefighters rescued a golden Labrador retriever that had fallen into Bode Lake Sunday morning.
At around 8 a.m., firefighters responded to a call from the owner, who said the dog ran out onto the lake and fell through the ice.
"We put a firefighter in what we call a cold weather suit - it's nickname is a Gumby - and put him on a rope, floated him out there. He had to climb his way to the dog on the ice," said Battalion Chief Michael Bosco.
When firefighter Tim Stoub reached the dog, he put a sling around him and pulled him ashore, Bosco said.
Both dog and firefighter are fine, Bosco added.
