Build overpass, but take action now, too
I have commuted to work from Route 134 in Long Lake along Route 120 to Route 21 for 16 years. The bypass would solve the "Grayslake Crawl." The trucks slow everything down, and should not have to go through the church and school areas in the first place if they are just passing through. The trucks roll up slowly eastbound, up and over the tracks to Route 83 and often the light turns yellow because of the gap caused by the trucks slowly going up the incline, while traffic is backed up all the way to Lake Street. There should be a wide right turn lane over the tracks similar to the greatly improved Alleghany and Route 120 intersection! There needs to be left turn lanes to the side streets westbound over the tracks after Rt. 83 for saftey from vehicles stopping on the tracks and to keep traffic moving. I don't like the idea of commercial development on the bypass as it needs to get us quickly across and solve the congestion situation. The only interchanges should be at Wilson, Alleghany and 83/137 and of course over the tracks!! People going other places can use the regular Route 120. Westbound afternoon traffic on 120 gets stuck because the Hainseville light does not let enough vehicles through! The traffic at 134 and Hainseville can wait another minute to let the heavy traffic through! The bypass would solve this gridlock in Grayslake and lighten the traffic through this nice community. I'm all for the environment but this project needs to get going and much can be done to improve the situation now, like left turn lanes, adjusting the timers of the streetlights to reflect real traffic conditions!!! I've been penning this in my head on my way to and from work for 16 years!!!
