Religious right goes in wrong direction

Members of the religious right cares more about controlling the government than it does about trying to change the hearts and minds of those who disagree with them.

They care more about forcing their views on those who believe differently.

Some examples of this would be erecting religious monuments in the public square, forcing public schools to teach intelligent design and abstinence-only sex-education (even though abstinence-only fails the vast majority of the time) and making sure gay couples don't have the right to get married.

Christ preached about spreading the gospel and helping the needy, but he never preached about trying to control the government.

I think forcing one's religious beliefs on others only serves to alienate them.
