Hampshire man critically injured in Huntley crash
A 38-year-old Hampshire man was in critical condition Friday afternoon after his legs were crushed by a sport utility vehicle in Huntley.
Marc A. Guttke was airlifted to Froedtert Medical Center in Milwaukee after being hit and briefly pinned to his vehicle at about 7:26 a.m., Huntley Police Sgt. Kevin Hillner said.
A hospital spokeswoman said Guttke was in critical condition as of midafternoon.
Hillner said Guttke stopped in the middle turn lane along Jim Dhamer Drive near Hennig Road on the village's southwest side, walked to the back of his SUV and was struck by a 2009 Chevy Blazer being driven east by Lisa M. Chraca, 30, of Hampshire.
Hillner said Chraca was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Hillner said police are still investigating, but weather conditions could have played a role in the crash because there were no signs of drug or alcohol use.
"We're thinking the sun may have been a factor in this," he said.
Hillner said he did not know what prompted Guttke to get out of his vehicle.
