Aurora man convicted of murder
An Aurora man was convicted Friday of shooting one man to death and wounding another in a gang-related ambush.
Darvin T. Henderson, 28, is the second man found guilty in the April 29, 2007, shooting, which killed Rashod M. Waldrup, 21, and injured an 18-year-old man who was with him.
Kane County Judge Grant S. Wegner found Henderson guilty of first-degree murder and attempted murder after a four-day trial. He faces 76 to 140 years in prison.
Prosecutors said Waldrup was shot in the back three times shortly after midnight as he and several other people were descending an apartment building staircase on the 400 block of North River Street, Aurora, where a party had been taking place upstairs. Another main was hit in the hail of bullets but survived.
Authorities said Henderson gained access to the building with the help of his co-defendant, Aurora resident Tuan C. Fields, 30, who also supplied the handgun used in the slaying.
Henderson could be sentenced to 20 to 30 years for murder and 6 to 30 years for attempted murder, plus he faces two mandatory 25-year enhancements because he personally fired the weapon, authorities said. The terms must be served consecutively.
Fields was convicted Oct. 7 of the same charges and faces 26 to 90 years in prison. Both men are due in court Jan. 9 for post-trial motions and to set sentencing dates.
