Petite et beau scents for your home

The magic of Lampes Berger is displayed at Trillium Gallery in Long Grove. While these lamps offer a pricey way to dispense fragrance through your house, they do make a statement.

They were invented in the late 1800s by Marcel Berger, a French pharmacist who was looking for a way to purify the air. Famous designers picked up the idea, and you will find them made in porcelain, ceramic and glass and with names like Lalique and Limoges.

Obviously some people collect more lamps than even the smelliest house could need.

The prices range from about $60 to $200, and the 40 scents carried at Trillium include Pumpkin Delight, Winter Wood, Orange Cinnamon and heavenly Spruce.

Let's celebrate the world's coolest city

It's the season when you are going to want to have gifts handy. What if you're traveling and stay overnight. Or maybe in-laws visit from quite a distance and you want to give them a souvenir of Chicago.

If they are tea drinkers, here's an idea. Jessica Rust Designs packages a ceramic Skyline mug with a lid and strainer and some whole leaf tea.

This is not just any mug. It celebrates our city with a line drawing of the skyline. The price is $28, but shipping is free if you order two or more. It can be personalized, but order soon as delivery takes some time.

Other cities are available, too, but who cares.

Yes, it's time to start thinking Christmas

What we love about Christmas ornaments: They make great gifts. They are small but carry big drama. If you love the expensive ones, you can collect them yearly.

What we love about Artful Home: The catalogs are works of art. The products are by real artists. Your neighbor won't have what you buy.

What we love about Artful Home ornaments: Wow.

These ornaments - most of them glass - are expensive, say $35 and up. But the good news is the company gives one away every day through Dec. 2. You can enter online at http://ornamentaday.artfulhome.com or fax your name, address and phone number to Ornament-A-Day Giveway at (608) 257-2690. Enter only once each day.
