Election judge loves the people, process

After a very long and busy day at the voting precinct that I worked, I would like to thank the voters and the Lake County Clerk's office for a great day. I would like to encourage people of all ages to consider being an election judge, because it is a small way to give back to your country and community. It was refreshing to see our younger judges, especially, getting involved in the process, lending their enthusiasm and intelligence to this important process. In a very short time before dawn, the judges must prepare the site, organize the applications and ballots, and be prepared for problems, questions and an eager voting public. In my experience of over ten years in being an election judge, I would like to say that in our Lake County, the voting process is held to a high level of integrity and honesty due to the diligence of the judges and their deep desire to do it right. No one that I spoke with was in this for the one-time pay. We're in this to keep our Lake County voting on the straight and narrow, and for anyone who balances their checkbook to the penny, you'll understand our concern and dedication to that end where votes are concerned.

I would especially like to thank our older or disabled voters who arrived on walkers and canes, assisted by caregivers or alone. It was incredible to see these people whose care and love of country overcame their disabilities in order to vote. Although the site was prepared for roadside voting, the people whose desire denied their failing legs showed up in numbers. Managing stairs and walks, patiently they came and they voted with all the help we could lend, and I applaud each and every one. This is America at its best.

I would also like to thank the Lake County Clerk's office for making the judges' jobs as clear as possible, it is an incredible effort on behalf of the clerk to help the judges understand their jobs and follow through to the letter of the law. It is a massive effort. Thank you Lake County for coming out to vote!
