No kids hurt in bus accident near Huntley

School officials are breathing a sigh of relief that the three young students aboard a school bus, left on its side during a Thursday afternoon crash near Huntley, were unharmed.

At about 4:10 p.m., the bus collided with a car at Reed Road and Northbridge Drive, within sight of Chesak Elementary School in Lake in the Hills.

The kids, a 10-year-old girl, a 5-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy, attend Chesak within Huntley Unit District 158.

Superintendent John Burkey said the students are now with their parents.

"We were very thankful that there were no injuries, because it could have been a lot worse," Burkey said.

Meanwhile, paramedics treated the man driving the car for minor injuries and released him, said Capt. Russ Wilson of the Huntley Fire Protection District.

The school bus driver also was checked on the scene and released, Wilson said.

It is not known whether the bus was on its way to Chesak or leaving it.

There are stop signs at the T intersection, but it is not known at this time how the accident happened, or how fast either vehicle was going.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department issued no comment, pending an investigation.

Firefighters and police from Huntley and Lake in the Hills, as well as transportation officials from the school district, responded to the crash.
